Our Wind Tool is a simple circular slide rule that will provide you with a quick and effortless reading of the cross wind and head wind components. Lightweight and robust, flat and reliable, it fits in any flight bag or aircraft pocket. No batteries or no mental math required!
Components:
Outer disk: runway heading
Inner disk: relative wind direction
Rotating index
How to use it:
Step 1: move the rotating index out of the way, and align the top of the inner disk with the runway heading (here: 340 for runway 34) selected on the outer disk.
Step 2: the rotating index indicate the direction from where the wind is blowing (here 010°). Position the centerline of the rotating index on the 010° mark of the outer disk.
Step 3: along the centerline of the rotating index, find the wind speed (13 kts) on the concentric circles on the inner disk, and read the cross wind along the horizontal axis (6.5 kts) of the inner disk; then read the head wind (11 kts) along the vertical axis.
Materials: 5052 Aluminum for the outer and inner disks, clear impact modified Acrylic for the rotating index.
Weight: less than 1.8 ounce (51 g)
